Captain Soulignac of CMA CGM visited to Weathernews JAPAN

From December 10th to 12th 2007, Captain Soulignac, Head of Fleet Navigation & Support Center of CMA CGM visited Weathernews Global Center , in Chiba, Japan to get a glance of Weathernews operations and new services development. At the end of this visit, he gave a lecture at WNI Hyde Park Gathering, in front of Weathernews employees eager to know more about the 3rd Container liner company in the world.

In November 2007, Weathernews was graced by a visit from a representative of MSC. One month later, we were equally pleased to receive a visitor from CMA CGM who with 366 operated ships is the 3rd Container liner shipping company in the world.

Captain's presentation gave Weathernews an inside look at the France-based company's new FLEET NAVIGATION AND SUPPORT CENTRE set up to maintain safety and prevent accidents. Its goal is to monitor potential risks, weather as well as piracy and assist masters, as well as shore side operations with a variety of resources including Weathernews's Total Fleet Management Service. Captain Soulignac explained his duty as follows: “It is important for masters to know they are not alone in case something occurs at sea and they can rely on someone 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”

Captain Soulignac said that he is leaving Weathernews with a very good impression, and he is eager to work closer with Weathernews entire team on different topics such as Fuel Routeing and enhancement of Weathernews on-board routing system, BRIDGE.

CMA CGM:
The history of CMACGM's growth from its inception in 1978 to the world’s third largest container shipping company with 600 offices worldwide, and its plans for the near future. The company has a history of merging with and acquiring other companies, the most recent of which was US Lines. Interresting enough is that CMA CGM is eager to keep these company brands and keep their culture alive, just like ANL or Delmas. The company have also established joint ventures with IBM to improve communications and safety, and are developing a sophisticated network for distribution that incorporates strategic terminal hubs, and rail transport for containers after they are offloaded in the trend of multimodal in order to offer improved door-to-door services to customers.
