March 25th, 2008, Mr. K.Y. Kang, an Assistant General Manager at Hanjin Shipping, paid a visit to Weathernews Global Center in Japan to introduce the Global Shipping company and share some of their expectations for their partnership with Weathernews.
Hanjin Shipping is the first company in Korea to choose Weathernews' Total Fleet Management Service to support the optimization of shipping operations and minimize risks. With the rising cost of fuel making headlines, the biggest issue for many shipping companies is how to deal with soaring fuel costs and maintain profitability. Hanjin realized Weathernews' innovative Fuel Routeing service as the solution. After several successful trials of the service, Hanjin was convinced of Fuel Routeing's effectiveness for improving operational efficiency, and decided to implement this solution for their entire fleet of container vessels.
The long-term relationship between Weathernews and Hanjin was further strengthened by the invitation to create an opportunity for face-to-face communication. Mr. Kang gave an introduction to Hanjin Shipping's history and current business activities, and shared his feelings about the Fuel Routeing trials. He observed that Fuel Routeing will also have a positive impact on the environment by reducing emissions. He also noted that the quality of Weathernews' service meets the needs of Masters, shore-side operators and ship managers through close three-way communication.
