CMA CGM Expect for the Strong Communication
CMA CGM Visit to Weathernews JAPAN

April 9th, 2008, Mr. Frédéric VIET, Deputy Vice-President of CMACGM, the world's third largest container shipping company, paid a visit to Weathernews Japan to see the Total Fleet Management Service operations systems and share some of their expectations for their partnership with Weathernews.

In December 2007, Weathernews was graced by a visit from CMA CGM and had the great opportunity of hearing Captain Soulignac's speech. Now this is the second time for CMACGM to visit Weathernews.

Mr. VIET introduced the company and the goals of their Fleet Navigation and Support Centre, which was set up to maintain safety and prevent accidents. “A close/more detailed communication between CMACGM and Weathernews, such as video conferences and weekly briefings, will be required in order to fulfill the purpose of the Fleet Navigation and Support Centre. I hope Weathernews, as a risk communicator, will identify any possible dangerous weather situations and share them with shore-side operators to find any problems and to make decision to help Masters.” Mr. VIET mentioned that the strong communication between shore-side operators and Weathernews meets the needs of Masters. He has high expectations of Weathernews's Total Fleet Management Service.

CMA CGM:
The history of CMACGM's growth from its inception in 1978 to the world’s third largest container shipping company with 600 offices worldwide, and its plans for the near future. The company has a history of merging with and acquiring other companies, the most recent of which was US Lines. Interresting enough is that CMA CGM is eager to keep these company brands and keep their culture alive, just like ANL or Delmas. The company have also established joint ventures with IBM to improve communications and safety, and are developing a sophisticated network for distribution that incorporates strategic terminal hubs, and rail transport for containers after they are offloaded in the trend of multimodal in order to offer improved door-to-door services to customers.
