Tokyo, February 7, 2007£WEATHERNEWS INC. (Location: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President:Chihito Kusabiraki), the Global Full Service Weather Company with Service and Support bases in 16 countries, has begun its Optimum Port Operation (OPO) Service to Mitsui O.S.KLines. Specifically, OPO is a risk communication service for ships berthing in port or anchoring off port as a way of ensuring the physical safety of those ships by warning them of the approach of severe conditions such as typhoons, storms and tsunami. This service will support Mitsui O.S.K Lines¡¯ Safe Operation Support Centre (SOSC), which opened on February 1, 2007.

The OPO service utilizes maritime
communication satellites to regularly keep track of the positions and status of all ships throughout the world.The OPO service also makes alerts about approaching tropical depressions such as typhoons or violent low-pressure systems along with specific details of winds and significant waves expected. The information is simultaneously communicated to ship operators and to those vessels in port that are in the path of the approaching storms.This new service, combined with the information shared within each shipping company,allows Masters and vessel Operators to take more effective preventive measures to ensure the safety of their ships at berth or anchoring.
