Our road management support service optimizes planning and response operations of both statutory and commercial organizations involved in maintaining a nation's road networks.
In some countries winter road management requires high-precision forecasting of parameters such as snowfall, air temperature, frost, and road-surface temperature in order to optimize safety and profitabilty. To supplement our original observation data and observation data maintained by the organizations maintaing the network, Weathernews operates its propriety RASM (Road Agency-Specific Model), a weather forecasting model specialized for local roads that is able to simulate road-environment conditions. RASM has real-time hind-casting functions, and can improve the precision of forecast values with a self-learning feature.
Winter road managers are responsible for ensuring road safety until the volume of traffic starts to pick up in the morning hours. Weathernews road management risk communicators with specialized knowledge of snow-and-ice related response operations constantly keep managers informed of changes to the environment. Using business operation manuals created together with customers, our risk communicators provide detailed reports on any changes in weather conditions, and study the timing of snow plowing and chemical spraying together with the customer in order to assist the decision-making process to ensure optimal road management during winter.
Working to advance road weather forecasting technology, Weathernews carries out R&D work on forecasting technology for regional weather phenomena that affects road traffic. These phenomena include destructive waves, fog, hail, drifting snow, melting-snow disasters, landslide disasters, slope collapses, etc.
