Measurements taken from each of the sensors in the field are summarized into specific time interval observations, usually hourly and daily summary observations, and are stored in a datalogger. Voice Synthesizer Telephone Modem |
The most popular communication device is the voice synthesizer telephone modem. This modem transmits real-time or historical data stored in the datalogger by synthesized voice to users calling the monitoring station. The voice synthesizer telephone modem can be used with a standard land line telephone connection or a cellular telephone at the monitoring site.
The voice phone modem also can be used to remotely turn on or off electrical devices or as a weather alarm. In frost warning situations, the voice phone modem can be programmed to call up to three telephone numbers and deliver a message when the temperature reaches a programmed threshold or send out a page.
Environmental monitoring on the farm provides localized data to make more informed decisions.
