The use of real-time localized weather information in agriculture as a key management tool has become a necessity in a competitive market. Weather stations - environmental monitoring systems - from Weathernews are industrial quality with core components designed for 15+ years in harsh environmental conditions to provide that essential, real-time data our clients need in order to make their operations the most efficient and successful.

Weathernews will analyze your specific environmental monitoring requirements and then design a system to meet these requirements. Weathernews provides installation of our automated weather stations on your acreage and also provides maintenance and calibration services. Some of the parameters of the Weathernews environmental stations monitor include:
| Air Temperature | |
| Relative Humidity | |
| Dew Point (calculation from air temperature and relative humidity) | |
| Wind Speed | |
| Wind Direction | |
| Solar Radiation | |
| Precipitation | |
| Soil Moisture | |
| Leaf Wetness | |
| Soil Temperature | |
| Evapotranspiration (calculation) | |
| Barometric Pressure |
The measurement and control modules (dataloggers) provide the ability to automate certain tasks - such as operating irrigation systems, fans, pumps, gates, alarms and other electrical devices - based on time and/or measurement thresholds that are adjustable by the user.
Measurements taken from each of the sensors in the field are summarized into specific time interval observations, usually hourly and daily summary observations, and are stored in a datalogger. The information is then transferred to a personal computer using one of the following communication options:
| Telephone Data Modem | |
| Short Haul Modem | |
| Storage Module | |
| RS-232 Interface | |
| Radio Modem (UHF, VHF, Spread Spectrum) | |
| Cellular Telephone | |
| Satellite Interface | |
| Voice Synthesizer Telephone Modem |
The most popular communication device is the voice synthesizer telephone modem. This modem transmits real-time or historical data stored in the datalogger by synthesized voice to users calling the monitoring station. The voice synthesizer telephone modem can be used with a standard land line telephone connection or a cellular telephone at the monitoring site.
The voice phone modem also can be used to remotely turn on or off electrical devices or as a weather alarm. In frost warning situations, the voice phone modem can be programmed to call up to three telephone numbers and deliver a message when the temperature reaches a programmed threshold or send out a page.
Environmental monitoring on the farm provides localized data to make more informed decisions. Many Weathernews clients have seen their return on investment realized as quickly as three months after beginning to use their automated weather station, and for the majority, the return on their investment is seen in the first growing season.
Key benefits of localized weather monitoring include:
| Irrigation Scheduling | |
| Frost Warnings | |
| Insect Emergence | |
| Crop Yield | |
| Pesticide Application | |
| Disease Analysis | |
| Crop Stress | |
| Degree Days | |
| Chill Hours | |
| Personnel Scheduling | |
| Drift Avoidance |
