Complex weather data is only as valuable as the software used to analyze the information and make it relevant to specific situations. Weathernews' WINDS software is one such tool that can help translate meteorological and environmental data into actionable information that will help protect and manage farm operations more efficiently and save money.

Weather Information Network Display System (WINDS) is a PC or Web-based management solution for storing, displaying, and analyzing meteorological information and other types of environmental data. Agricultural models built into WINDS use this data to predict the life cycle of natural organisms, run disease models and assist growers in planning their irrigation scheduling and forecasting degree-days. The software has been specifically designed for use with the Weathernews automated weather stations and provides an easy method for growers to store and display large volumes of weather data collected in the field over many years. WINDS includes over 120 pest models, a degree day calculator, disease models, climatic analysis, cross-tab reports of environmental parameter vs. time, tabular reports, customizable graphics, wind rose analysis, soil moisture management tools, and in some cases, 30-year historical weather records.

WINDS is designed to analyze, store and display weather information and other types of agricultural-specific data in tabular and graphical reports.
The process starts with an environmental monitoring station or Data Collection Platform (DCP). Readings taken by the DCP from the attached sensors are stored locally and then retrieved and read into the WINDS database.
The WINDS software enables the user to easily analyze large volumes of data in concise and easy-to-read formats. The report formats can be customized for each individual user, making the software flexible for use in many different applications and industries. Information in the tabular and graphical reports can be displayed in Metric or English units. Data within the WINDS software can be edited as well as extracted into a spreadsheet, or placed into an ASCII file format for importing into relational database programs.

The PC version of WINDS runs on the user's local PC where the data is stored on the local hard drive. Multiple users can generate reports and graphs using the WINDS PC version if the database is located on a network drive.

The Web-based version of WINDS is a service offered by Weathernews. Data from the client's environmental monitoring station(s) is gathered by Weathernews. The data is then stored on the Weathernews WINDS Web Server. Clients may access their data via the Internet from a customized, password protected "WINDS for the Web" service site.
