Our skilled analysts in Weathernews' marine operations center use our Voyage Planning System (VPS) to help ship Masters plan the most efficient routes based on whatever vessel or voyage restrictions they may need to accommodate. Faced with demanding schedules, increased workloads and shorter turnaround times in port, ship operators and Masters rely on our Ship Routing services to ensure they meet their economic and safety goals, such as on-time arrivals, fuel savings and avoidance of extreme weather conditions.

Our services also help retain and grow customer relationships by helping ensure customers live up to their downstream commitments and reducing the potential financial penalties they may incur due to weather-related delays or damage.

Optimum Ship Routing

Our Ship Routing services combine the highest-quality meteorological, oceanographic, naval architecture, shipping economics and navigation science to help vessels reach port safely and on time. In order to best route vessels, our analysts combine information from a complete range of environmental data, such as surface pressure charts, satellite data, winds and waves, sea conditions, ice and sea temperatures. We also factor in the nature of cargo and the condition of vessels, like type, age, speed, draft, trim, deck load, stability and sea handling characteristics. We then work with the operators and Masters to determine the best route based on their time constraints, economic concerns and safety requirements. Ship Routing information can be received by fax, telex or electronically and includes continuous voyage monitoring, regular voyage status reports, enroute advisories to the vessel and a Preliminary Performance Evaluation (PPE) upon the vessel's arrival.

24-Hour Service and Support, Every Day

Throughout the voyage the shoreside vessel operator may elect to receive daily reports giving current positions, speed and updated estimated-time-of-arrival. Weathernews' staff is available on a 24-hour basis every day to answer any questions related to your voyage via telephone, fax, telex or electronic mail.

All weather information for our forecasts is based on the interpretation of several global numerical forecast models by meteorologists. These include the European Center for Medium Range Weather Forecasting, the U.S. National Weather Service, the U.S. Navy Fleet Numerical Oceanographic Command, the Japanese Meteorological Agency and others. We will provide you with the meteorological forecasts based on our knowledge, experience and data resources, compared to short-range 72-hour forecasts which are available via HF Fax. Our OceanWatch Weather Information and Fleet Display system will provide, on a fleet-wide basis, up-to-date global weather information, position reports, ETA and all message traffic between Weathernews and the vessel. | top

Post Voyage Analysis

Following the voyage Weathernews can also prepare a post-voyage Preliminary Performance Evaluation (PPE) to be used by the vessel operator and the Master to review the voyage in the light of weather experienced, the route taken and the performance of the vessel on that route. The PPE provides important vessel management information about fuel consumption and speed performance, so owners and operators can make critical business decisions about specific vessels and future voyages.
