Heat intensifies from September 12 as high pressure aloft builds

From September 11 through 16, temperatures in Spain will rise as strong sunshine combines with high pressure aloft. With few clouds in the sky, strong sunshine will continue to warm the surface. At around 5,000 m above the ground, a ridge of high pressure extends farther out than in surrounding areas, creating conditions unfavorable for cloud formation. The heat is expected to peak on September 14.

Outlook for each area

Strong sunshine and high pressure aloft will continue throughout the period. In Seville, warm air will also flow in, and temperatures will reach as high as 38°C between the 11th and 16th, while humidity will remain low at 15% to 21%, resulting in dry heat. Madrid will also be under high pressure at the surface, with temperatures rising to 35°C on the 15th; humidity will be low at 12%, making for dry heat. Bilbao will range from 23°C to 33°C, while Barcelona, where the high-pressure ridge aloft is weaker, will range from 26°C to 30°C. Neither location will reach 35°C.

Please avoid going outdoors during the day as much as possible. Drink water frequently and take precautions against the heat, such as improving ventilation indoors.
