Temperatures to rise as upper-level high pressure builds

On October 18, an upper-level high and warm air are expected to combine to raise temperatures across Taiwan. At around 5,000 m, a ridge of high pressure extends more prominently than in surrounding areas, making cloud formation less likely below it. In addition, warm air of +18°C or higher has spread widely from the Philippine Sea at around 1,500 m, continuing to warm the air near the surface. This is making daytime temperatures more likely to rise.

Outlook for major cities

The upper-level high and warm air are expected to persist during the period. Sunshine is also expected to intensify in Taipei, where temperatures are forecast to reach 35°C on October 18, with humidity at 59%. Taichung is forecast to reach 33°C, Kaohsiung 32°C and Hualien 28°C, all below 35°C.

Avoid going outdoors during the day where possible. Drink fluids regularly and take steps to cope with the heat, such as improving ventilation indoors.
