Warm air and strong sunshine to drive temperatures higher

Temperatures are expected to rise across Thailand on October 19 as warm air combines with strong sunshine. At around 1,500 m altitude, warm air at +18°C or higher is spreading widely from the South China Sea and continues to warm the air near the surface. With few clouds and additional solar heating, daytime temperatures are expected to rise more easily.

Outlook for major cities

Warm air and strong sunshine are expected to persist during the period. Bangkok is forecast to reach 35°C on October 19, with humidity at 64%, making conditions muggy. On October 20, clouds are expected to spread and weaken the sunshine, bringing Bangkok’s temperature down to 34°C. Chiang Mai is forecast to reach 34°C, while Phuket is expected to reach 33°C with weaker sunshine; none of the three cities is expected to reach 35°C.

Limit outdoor activities as much as possible during the day. Drink fluids regularly and take steps to cope with the heat, such as improving ventilation indoors.
